Job Description Summary

The potential candidate will develop and coordinate preparation for First Communion, Reconciliation, Baptism, and the Catechumenates according to Archdiocesan guidelines and will assist with all CCE activities. The Coordinator of Sacrament Preparation reports to the Director of Religious Education (DRE). The Coordinator’s role is to foster and engage volunteers, parents, and students in all of the program’s goals and events.

Ability to multitask, recruit, and train catechists, communicate well with parents and other staff members.

Bilingual – English and Spanish strongly desired.

This position is 30 hours a week and requires evenings and/or weekends.

Job Requires:

  • Working – evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Personal ongoing formation/a love of the Catholic Faith, Sacraments and Evangelization.
  • Pursue/maintain Archdiocesan catechist certification.
  • Collaboration with Archdiocese, Pastor, area supervisor and other staff members

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • With the support of the DRE review, select and acquire materials and develop curriculum in conformance with Archdiocese guidelines specific to sacramental preparation.
  • Coordinate and prepare materials, setting up meeting environment and spaces for the sacramental preparation including required Retreats, Registration, Parent formation meetings, Rehearsal, and Receptions. 
  • Coordinate with other parish ministries and leaders in the calendar planning/celebration too ensure it is in alignment with the pastor and parish calendar.
  • Work with registrar to maintain accurate database for the children/families in the sacramental preparation process.
  • Monitor student attendance and progress towards meeting requirements to receive the Sacraments.
  • Recruiting and formation of catechist/volunteers
  • Preparation of children, sponsors, and parents for rites and scrutinies
  • All other such duties which the Pastor may require for the sacramental process – program.
  • Assist with all CCE activities:
  • Planning and implementing special programs (Summer Vacation Bible School, Christmas, Easter etc.)
  • Training / recruiting catechists /volunteers and adult education etc.
  • Catechist coverage and materials requested by catechists.
  • Supervision of students during CCE sessions and pickup and drop-off of students
