The sacrament of Confirmation completes the graces received at Baptism and anoints us to be a fruitful Christian. Confirmation bestows a seal with the gift of the Holy Spirit in which we are given a special outpouring in a personal Pentecost.
This sacrament enables us to become better witnesses to Christ in the world. In Baptism, we become a child of God; in Confirmation we become a soldier of God. Through this sacrament, we are given the responsibility to spread and defend the faith, and to profess faith in Christ publicly.
The Bishop, the successor of the Apostles, is the ordinary minister of this sacrament. This reflects the Apostolic nature of the Church, strengthening the bond and unity with the Church.
